I run an ecommerce store. We potentially ship to a lot of countries, depending on supplier. This has only been pretty recently, previously we were supplying solely to the UK. Something that has come up for us is that we use Paypal for our transactions. Our profit margins are currently getting eaten alive when we deal with European countries, because of the currency conversion rates that are built in with Paypal. Has anyone got any help with dealing with online payments that they can provide a solution?07/04/2015 at 9:53 am #4198
Hello and thanks for the question. The EU is in the middle of rolling out it’s new SEPA payment system which makes for cheaper cross border payments GBP/EUR/GBP etc…
Currently, the service is limited however some UK businesses are taking advantage of this newer, cheaper way of being paid for products and services within the EU. For further information, please visit: http://www.gocardless.com – As you’ll see, you should be able to make an integration of their service onto your ecommerce store. At the moment they have plugins for Woocommerce and maybe could have some other ecommerce platform solutions too.23/04/2015 at 9:21 am #4396
Hi. Thanks for your help, editor. We’re looking into a few things, but we’re very much in the early stages.
Gocardless looks interesting, and could work as a solution. What would you say are the things that need to be ironed out with this system before it’s workable?23/04/2015 at 9:25 am #4400
The Gocardless service currently accept EU currency payments to UK bank accounts which is good news. Later they will roll out the service which means that with Gocardless, you will also be able to send UK payments overseas to EU bank accounts. They are starting with France and will then move into other countries I guess.
